The Canadian Journal of Dietetic Practice and Research is the official peer-reviewed quarterly publication of Dietitians of Canada. The Journal publishes manuscripts of original research, professional practice and reviews that contribute to best practice in Canadian dietetics, including clinical nutrition, community nutrition, public health, food service administration, and professional education. 

The Journal (formerly the Journal of the Canadian Dietetic Association) was first established in 1939. It was made available online as well as in print in 2007 and in 2014 became available exclusively online.

Dawna has been the Editor since 1998.  She is also a Senior Evidence Analyst for Dietitians of Canada's Practice-based Evidence in Nutrition®  (PEN) knowledge translation online service and is a research consultant for the University of Guelph. Recent research activities involve improving the effectiveness of nutrition services for management of chronic disease in interprofessional primary care.

Melissa Fernandez, PhD(c), RD, Quebec, QC

Associate Editor / French Editor

Melissa Fernandez has a Masters in nutrition from McGill University and is completing a PhD at Université Laval. She is a member of the Ordre professionnel des diététistes du Québec and is a regional representative for Nutrition month in Quebec City for the Dietitians of Canada. Melissa contributed to international research projects in Barbados and Ghana during her Masters, and worked as a dietitian with First Nations Health Programs in the Yukon before starting her PhD. She is now studying food skills, family meals and diet quality of Canadian parents, and is evaluating a national healthy eating campaign.
